What’s Coworking Like for Different Personality Types?

January 25, 2022/in Latest News/by admin

Coworking spaces offer creative solutions for businesses, but what is the synergy like in coworking spaces? How do different personalities factor in?

Different Personality Types

In the recent past, the MBTI personality typing has become somewhat of a trend. This talks about the 16 different personality types based on the personality theory created by Isabel Myers together with Katharine Briggs. In a shared office space, there’s a high likelihood of all of these personalities being present—each having different work styles and social skills. Technicalities and specific individual indicators aside, the personalities in any working setup can be more simply classified into introverts, extroverts, and ambiverts.

A Place and Space for Each Type

All of the three personality types previously mentioned can be seen in a shared office space. According to the 2018 Global Coworking Survey, however, almost half are ambiversive (those who identify themselves as a mix of introverted and extroverted), one in three consider themselves as more extroverted, and one in five think of themselves as more introverted. A small percentage of survey participants answered they “don’t know”.

On average, the more introverted individuals work in coworking spaces more regularly compared to the half of both extroverts and ambiverts combined who do. Most of the more introverted individuals are not exactly fans of totally isolated workplaces though, and this makes coworking offices a great option for this facet of their professional needs. Despite all types preferring having some private retreat in shared office spaces, the more introverted ones did rank liking this a little more.

The entrepreneurs who are managing employees tend to fall more often in the extroverted category and they make up an above-average proportion of the survey’s participants. Compared to the introverts who speak to around three other people (in the work setting) in a day, extroverts speak to as much as double, and are more prone to working in shared offices daily compared to introverts and ambiverts. The more extroverted individuals feel more connected to their community and value coworking spaces for the possibilities of interaction, the social atmosphere, and meeting like-minded individuals. They value the knowledge exchange and feel more confident around coworkers who are extroverted as well.

In between are the ambiverts, and the need to network is more prevalent in this group. Similar to the extroverts, they place a high value on the social aspects of shared working spaces, and more surprisingly, majority of them work alone compared to the introverts. However, they still do prefer collaborative work more compared to introverts, and are more adaptive when it comes to changing teams. The ambiverts come into contact with most people in the team, extending their communications to both introverts and extroverts and claim to have more productive workdays in coworking spaces.

A mix of individuals coupled with a space conducive for productivity makes up the wonderful Britannia Vibe we have. With our varied packages and spaces, there is definitely a match for each personality type!

4 Self-Improvement Tips for Productivity

August 30, 2021/in Latest News/by admin

4 Self-Improvement Tips for Productivity. Saying goodbye to summer and the lovely sunny weather isn’t easy, but with autumn being ushered in, we are presented with a chance to realign ourselves and our work priorities. According to a study conducted by the Harvard Business School, despite the generally overcast weather during fall, people become more focused on work because the summer is already over and distractions from summertime activities are no longer taking up brain space.

September also happens to be the self-improvement month and it would be a great time to integrate some new techniques to be more productive. Instead of the weather getting you down and fogging your mind up, use this time to improve yourself and your habits to be more productive. Here are some tips to try out:

Morning rituals

Not everyone is a morning person, but in a world where eight-to-fives are a thing, being up in the morning matters. Developing a morning ritual you can stick to can help set the wheels in motion and have you geared towards the right direction. You know your day will be packed with things you have to do, so why not make the time to do something for yourself before everything else? Wake up 20 or 30 minutes earlier and brew yourself some tea, read a good book, or exercise for a few minutes. Exercising early in the morning in particular gives your system a natural high on endorphins which bring about a great mood! Find a pleasurable routine to help energize you for the day ahead.

30-day challenges

There is a popular phrase that says, “It takes 21 days to form a habit,” but contrary to that statement, it actually takes 66 days on average! Don’t be discouraged by the numbers and start with an attainable goal. Commit yourself to doing something consistently for a week. Then, make it two weeks… then, a month. This is a good way to compete with or motivate yourself. If routines aren’t your thing, try following a 30-day challenge. There are various resources online that can give you 30-day challenges to eat better, exercise more, declutter, or even improve your mental health through varying pre-set daily activities. This can allow you to know yourself a little more or maybe even discover new hobbies that you can enjoy.

Pomodoro Technique

Having a strong focus isn’t an innate ability. It’s like a muscle you need to train. However, if you find yourself as the kind of person whose attention span or flow just isn’t for a straight session of productive efforts, the Pomodoro Technique can help you out. It is a technique where you complete the work within the time you have rather than working against the “time left”. It works by dividing your day into 25-minute periods, each separated by 5-minute breaks called Pomodoros. After four Pomodoros, you can take longer, 15−20-minute breaks. You can set a timer for your 25-minute intervals and challenge yourself to not be distracted within this period. Knowing you have a 5-minute break coming creates a pleasurable sense of urgency to work towards it. With this technique, you can complete tasks during your worktime window while being rewarded with breaks in small increments throughout the day. Use that 5-minute break to refresh your mind—play if you want to! Being productive doesn’t have to be boring. Use those Pomodoros to invigorate you and help you achieve more.

Adopting a growth mindset

Your perception of failures and success greatly impacts how you go about your day-to-day activities. Instead of beating yourself too much over a mistake, think of it as a lesson to improve and make yourself better. Things aren’t always easy but there is always room to grow. When things get challenging, know that it’s okay to ask for help or direction. In a work environment, this translates to knowing you can’t always do everything by yourself and that there’s always someone who can help you get better at what you do. Co-working spaces and collaborative environments can help foster a healthy growth mindset by finding like-minded people and learning from them.

Take that first step towards self-improvement and be a better version of yourself today!
